Celaine is a Rococo-inspired puppet made from clay, felted wool, fabric, ribbon, and wire. Though she is not fully articulate, she is poseable and very expressive; very detailed as well. At about 8″ tall, her clothes and shoes are quite tiny, but even her love letter has a miniature wax seal on the back! I drew upon many different themes from Rococo artwork, including the “polonaise” dresses of the period and the tradition of writing love letters. Her golden-tipped ears and whiskers and delicate color bring to mind the popular porcelain dishes that were an integral part of noble households.
Below, you will find the finished project as well as a few process shots. Sculpting this character was my favorite part!
